Heine Discusses China’s BRI During Fairbank Center Lecture

On September 30, 2020, Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, gave a lecture titled “China and the Global South: From Debt Diplomacy to Dependency?” as part of part of the “Critical Issues Confronting China” series at Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies.

During his remarks, Heine addressed the relationships China has developed with countries in Latin America and Africa through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the signature foreign policy issue of President Xi Jinping.

Ambassador Jorge Heine is a Research Professor at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University. He has served as ambassador of Chile to China (2014-2017), to India (2003-2007) and to South Africa (1994-1999), and as a Cabinet Minister in the Chilean Government. Read more on him here.
