Ye Discusses China’s BRI & Economic Recovery Amid COVID
Min Ye, Associate Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on TRT World‘s Money Talks to discuss China’s recent Growth Domestic Product (GDP) growth amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.
In her remarks, Ye discusses how China’s systematic containment of COVID-19 by national leadership paved the way for a resurgence in economic activities. China’s exports, manufacturing, tourism, and retail businesses have recovered significantly due to these efforts.
Ye went on to discuss the railway system connecting China and European markets, which was expanded and stabilized as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and how this allowed for a stable flow of Chinese goods to Europe even as other means of export were shut down due to the pandemic. She pointed out that these projects that increased Chinese commercial connectivity prior to the pandemic have played a big part in their recent economic upturn.
