Heine Writes Letter to Financial Times Editor on Chile’s Constitution

Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, wrote a letter to the editor of the Financial Times voicing support for Chile’s soon-to-be redrafted constitution and arguing against a point laid out in the publication.

In his letter, titled “A new constitution is the framework Chile needs,” Heine argues that a recent op-ed from the Financial Times’ editorial board belittles the fact that Chile, through a democratic election, has chosen to replace a constitution that was inherited from a military dictatorship. He goes on to say that the piece seems to argue the opinion of businesses are somehow more relevant than the citizens. Heine argued that the new Chilean constitution will “provide Chile with a constitutional framework to manage the challenges of the new century.”
