Garčević Interviewed on U.S. Relations with China & Russia
On March 26, 2021, Ambassador Vesko Garčević, Professor of the Practice of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on the Al Jazeera Balkans political talk show The Context to discuss the United States’ relations with China and Russia. The program also featured Dejan Jovic, professor at the University of Zagreb, Croatia.
The discussion explored President Biden’s attempt to reassert the America’s place in the world and to distinguish himself from former President Donald Trump. Of course, after President Biden called Russian President Putting a killer and after the angry words at the Sino-American meeting in Alaska, the relations between the US and its rivals have become particularly strained.
Against this backdrop, the two scholars discussed the strength of the Euro-Atlantic bond and chances for a new, energized, partnership between Europe and the U.S. They highlighted how the problems with the vaccine rollout in the European Union have widened space for China and Russia to advance their influence in the Balkans.
