Heine Publishes Op-eds on COVID-19 & Chilean Elections

Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, published two op-eds in Clarín discussing Chile’s recent election and the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 3, 2021, Heine published an article titled “Lecciones para un mundo pos-pandemia” (Lessons for a post-pandemic world) in which he reviews Fareed Zakaria’s book, Ten Lessons for a Post Pandemic World. In his piece, Heine discusses the role of globalization played in rapidly disseminating COVID-19, the importance of a quality government apparatus over a large one, as well as the future of global trade in the shadow of the pandemic. The full article can be read on Clarín’s website.

On May 15, 2021, Heine published another article titled “Chile y la madre de todas las elecciones” (Chile and the mother of all elections) in which he discussed Chile’s recent elections for the country’s Constitutional Conventions, Regional Governor, one mayor, and another for councilors. In the article, Heine comments on the historic nature of the constitutional vote, the right wing contingency’s resistance to the vote, and how voter participation could impact the constitutional vote. The full article can be read on Clarín’s website.
