Najam Comments on the Urgency of Climate Action

Adil Najam

Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on Indus News to discuss the sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the need for climate action.

Najam, a former member of the IPCC and lead author of their third and fourth assessment reports, noted that the IPCC has been warning of the same thing in a number of its recent reports; however, what’s new in this report is the stark urgency that is in the language, which is usually more conservative in its wording. He went on to say that the science of climate change has been clear for some time and echoed a sentiment found in the report: what the world needs now is not more science but more action on climate change.

The Pardee School and it’s affiliated research center have explored the need for climate action, most recently with a conference on the future of carbon pricing and the release of a new report exploring global debt relief strategies that encourage sustainable development.

The full IPCC report can be read online.
