Hefner Keynotes Conference on Justice in Indonesia

Robert HefnerProfessor of Anthropology and of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, gave a keynote presentation during a Center for Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies (CRCS) conference on social justice in Indonesia. 

The conference, titled “Akses pada Keadilan dan Kewargaan: Dinamika Advokasi Bagi Kelompak Rentan Indonesia” (Access to Justice and Citizenship: The Dynamics of Advocacy for Vulnerable Groups in Indonesia) , was organized by CRCS and sponsored by Gadjah Mada University, the Asia Foundation, and Indonesian Legal Aid Institute. It explored, among other things, the organization and operation of programs organized under the MAJU program on social justice over the past five years. Hefner was among three keynote speakers who discussed directions of and challenges to democracy and civil society in Indonesia today.

Robert Hefner has directed 21 research projects and organized 18 international conferences, and authored or edited twenty one books. He is president of the American Institute for Indonesian Studies and former president of the Association for Asian Studies. With the support of the Henry Luce Foundation, he is currently co-producing six documentary films on religious plurality, gender, and citizenship in Indonesia, and completing a book, Muslim Citizens, on the same topics. Read more about Professor Hefner on his faculty profile
