Faizaan Firoz (Pardee ’25) Featured in “BU Today” Student Profile

Faizaan Firoz (Pardee ’25) is the subject of a BU Today student feature, which explores his journey overcoming adversity, his interest in international relations, and his drive to using his voice to speak for those who have no voice.

In the article, titled “Meet the Class of 2025: Faizaan Firoz,” Firoz discusses how he has come to find his voice, which began when he was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect (VSD) as a child childhood. A successful surgery left one of his vocal chords damaged and his voice “breathy, hoarse, [and] wheezy,” which unfortunately made him a target for bullying. Despite this, Firoz developed a passion for public speaking and joined his school’s Model United Nations (MUN). He thrived in his club role despite the bullies and used the opportunity to speak for those who could not speak for themselves, telling BU Today, “I could channel that anger into fighting for people who had no voice, and so I went back to MUN and slowly started introducing resolutions that dealt with refugee rights, child exploitation, people who are fleeing wars and environmental catastrophes, sexual violence, child marriages – I went further ahead and became secretary general of my school’s club.”

A third-generation Kenyan whose family roots are in India, Firoz says he is looking forward to studying international relations at BU’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, but he’s also interested in performing in theater. His interests include television, music, and food.

The full student feature can be read on BU Today‘s website.
