CSE Kicks off Series of Lectures on Brexit
On October 1, 2021, the Center for the Study of Europe (CSE), an affiliated center of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted the first in a series of five lectures on Brexit that will take place throughout the month of October.
In this first lecture, titled “Boris, Brexit, and Beyond,” Erik Golstein, Professor of International Relations and History at the Pardee School, lays the groundwork for the remaining talks. He explains how Britain got to where it is today, the deep history underlying the Brexit decision and the role of Boris Johnson in particular, as well as his thoughts on where the United Kingdom is headed. The event was moderated by Kaija Schilde, Associate Professor of International Relations at the Pardee School and Acting Director of CSE.
A recording of the event can be viewed below. To register for the remaining Brexit lecture, view the calendar listings on the Pardee School website.
The mission of the Center for the Study of Europe is to promote understanding of Europe through its cultural heritage; its political, economic, and religious histories; its art, literature, music, and philosophy; as well as through its recent emergence as a new kind of international form through the European Union (EU). Operationally, the center provides a focal point and institutional support for the study of Europe across Boston University through coordination of teaching missions, support of research, community-building among faculty and students, and outreach beyond the University.
