On October 28, 2021, Timothy LongmanProfessor of International Relations and Political Science at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University and Director of the Institute on Culture, Religion, and World Affairs (CURA), joined Rwandan author Scholastique Mukasonga for a webinar exploring ideas of mourning and exile in the wake of the Rwandan genocide.

The webinar was presented by Roger Williams University Library and Scholars at Risk-US in association with the African Studies Association and Archipelago Books.

Scholastique Mukasonga is one of the most important voices chronicling the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda through both memoirs and fiction. During this event, she read a selection from her newest work, Igifu, and we spent an hour discussing the treatment of memory and grief in this moving memoir. Following her readings, Longman provided his own commentary and insights on the Rwandan genocide.

Further details of the event can be found on RWU’s website.
