Mako Interviewed on “After the Arab Uprisings“
In an interview with Jadaliyya, Shamiran Mako, Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, discussed her latest book, After the Arab Uprisings: Progress and Stagnation in the Middle East and North Africa.
In the interview, Mako and co-author Valentine M. Moghadam discuss their motivations for writing this book, the questions it hopes to answer, how it relates to their current research, and what impact they hope it will have. In discussing key takeaways from the book, Mako and Moghadam said they “hope that pundits and policymakers can be convinced of the futility of direct military interventions, which have caused so much mayhem and tragedy in Libya, Syria, and Yemen.” Additionally, the two “hope the comparative scope of the book and the integrated framework we have developed will enrich ongoing scholarship on revolutions and democratic transitions.”
