Heine Discusses Biden-Xi Call on War in Ukraine
On March 18, 2022, United States President Joe Biden had a multi-hour call with China’s President Xi Jinping to discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the ongoing conflict. Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, offered comments on the conversation and the crisis in Ukraine during an interview with NTN 24 in Washington D.C.
In his comments, Heine speculated on whether China could mediate in Ukraine. While China has yet to intervene or made an indication that it will, its ties with Russia and global influence mean it has the potential to play a pivotal role in the conflict. As it stands, Heine claims “China is trying to get along with God and the Devil.”
