Najam Discusses Necessity of Bringing Current Events Into Classroom Discussions

On May 2, 2022, Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, lead a faculty discussion at the Harvard University School of Law’s Program on Negotiation (PON) on the challenges and opportunities of bringing current events and controversies into classroom discussions.

The well-attended event was part of PON’s Faculty Pedagogy Seminar Series, which brought together senior faculty from all colleges and universities across Boston.

In his remarks, Najam highlighted that bringing current events is not optional at the Pardee School, it is a necessity. While there is care that needs to be exercised in creating a safe space for difficult conversations, he argued that it is part of the school’s teaching responsibility to enable these conversations to happen in a manner that is civil and conceptually robust.
