Hare Quoted on Ukraine War’s Impact on Cuba

Ambassador Paul Hare, Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was quoted in a Financial Times article on the impact Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has had on Cuba.

The article, titled “‘Now it will only get worse:’ Cuba grapples with impact of Ukraine war,” explores the difficult situation Cuba has been placed in as a result of Russia’s war in Ukraine. The war has been diplomatically awkward for Cuba, with its government blaming the conflict on the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) while also calling for the respect of international borders. Hare said the war has forced Cuba to pick the wrong side in what the European Union considered a strategic threat, noting “Cuba will be seen as complicit in Putin’s attempt to redraw the map of Europe and upend the world order.”
