Heine Among the Founding Members of Diplomats Without Borders

On June 3, 2022, a group of leading global diplomats signed the Bellagio Declaration establishing Diplomats Without Borders (DWB), a group that aims to provide the services of experienced and impartial former diplomats, supported by relevant experts, to strengthen conflict prevention and resolution capacities, to offer advice and training, and to provide a platform for dialogue worldwide. Among the group’s founding members is Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University. Heine will also serve on the group’s initial Board of Directors.

DWB, inspired by the United Nations Charter, will bring together a diverse pool of seasoned former diplomats to offer advice and training on a pro bono basis, globally, to both state and non-state actors, including governments, civil society, private sector, educational institutions, and faith-based institutions.

Among the other DWB founding members are Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan of Turkey (retired); Ambassador Kees Rade of the Netherlands (retired); and Itonde Kakoma, Head of Delegation and Permanent Representative to the African Union and International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

DWB’s founding declaration can be read online.
