Najam Discusses Devastating Floods in Pakistan & Efforts to Support Victims
Adil Najam, Dean Emeritus and Professor of International Relations and Earth and Environment at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, was interviewed for a Boston Globe article on the flooding that has been devastating Pakistan.
The article, titled “Watch: Shocking videos of Pakistan drowning spur community in Boston into action,” details the monsoon level flooding that continues to devastate Pakistan and has killed over 1,300 people since June. Najam, for his part, is working with The Citizens Foundation (TCF) – a nonprofit supporting the education of underprivileged Pakistani children, of which he is on the board of directors – to provide support to impacted communities and raise awareness of the crisis among non-Pakistanis. Part of Najam’s effort to inform the greater public about the flooding is to make clear that this is not a Pakistan problem; rather, it is a result of global climate change, and unfortunately, the poorest and most vulnerable countries of the world are suffering the most for the emissions of more prosperous nations.
