On September 21, 2022, Adil Najam, Dean Emeritus and Professor of International Relations and Earth and Environment at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, delivered a keynote address at the Knowledge for Development (K4D) conference hosted by the Institute for Development Studies (Sussex University) and the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The K4D conference brought together leading international development experts, practitioners, and policymakers including Najam; Melissa Leach, Director of the Institute of Development Studies; K4D Director Jim Woodhill; and many more. Najam delivered a keynote speech and also participated in a panel discussion on “evidence for action in turbulent times.”

In his remarks, Najam stated that the world now finds itself in what he calls the Age of Adaptation, meaning climate change is no longer something we can stave off; it is here. He argued that we are entering an era of intense contestation not only on facts but on expertise and knowledge itself.
