Weinstein Leads Event on U.S. Air Force with Major General Jeannie M. Leavitt
On September 28, 2022, Lt Gen Jack Weinstein, USAF (Ret), Professor of the Practice of International Security at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, moderated a WorldBoston event on the United States Air Force (USAF) with Major General Jeannie M. Leavitt, Air Force Chief of Safety at the Pentagon, the service’s first-ever female fighter pilot, and the first woman to command a USAF combat fighter wing.
During the event, Weinstein highlighted Major General Leavitt’s inspiring military career and journey as well as current issues facing the USAF. The two discussed the importance of public engagement for the service, Air Force recruiting, and the role of the U.S. Air Force in national security.
In attendance were Pardee School graduate and undergraduate students as well as members of BU’s Air Force ROTC program. Also in attendance was Lt Col, USAF (Ret), Enoch O’Dell “Woody” Woodhouse II who was a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen – the first all-Black military aviators in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Woody served as the unit Finance Officer and Paymaster.
Jack Weinstein, Lieutenant General, USAF (Ret), served in the U.S. Air Force from 1982 to 2018. Prior to arriving at the Pardee School of Global Studies, he was the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration, Headquarters United States Air Force, the Pentagon. In this position, he was responsible to the Secretary and Chief of Staff on all aspects of nuclear deterrence operations providing direction, guidance, integration, and advocacy regarding the nuclear deterrence mission of the U.S. Air Force and engaged with joint, interagency, and NATO to develop nuclear enterprise solutions.
