Garčević Explores Montenegro’s Political Instability

In the wake of the June 11, 2023 Montenegro Parliamentary elections, Radio Slobodna Europe published an article featuring Ambassador Vesko Garčević, Professor of the Practice of International Relations at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies. The article, “Garčević: Montenegro is Entering a Period of Political Instability,” discusses Montenegro’s political instability and how the country will be able to strengthen its position.

In the article, Garčević presents various strategies Montenegro could take in order to achieve political stability. Garčević favors a coalition comprised of the Europe Now Movement and the coalition gathered around the Democratic Party of Socialists. Other coalition possibilities were presented but less favored due to complications.

Ambassador Vesko Garčević dealt with issues pertinent to European security and NATO for almost 14 years during his diplomatic career. In 2004, he was posted in Vienna to serve as Ambassador to Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. He was Montenegro’s Ambassador to NATO from 2010 until 2014 and served as Montenegro’s National Coordinator for NATO from 2015 until he joined the faculty at the Pardee School.
