Heine’s Insights Published: Digital Diplomacy

Amb. Jorge Heine

In the ever-evolving landscape of international relations, the intersection of technology and diplomacy has become increasingly prominent. A testament to this dynamic relationship is the recently released “Oxford Handbook of Digital Diplomacy,” a comprehensive exploration into the impact of digital technologies on the world of diplomacy. Released on January 4, 2024, by Oxford University Press and edited by Corneliu Bjola and Ilan Manor, this handbook brings together leading experts to explore the practices, processes, and disruptions caused by digital diplomacy.

Among the distinguished contributors is Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and Interim Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, whose chapter, co-authored with Juan Pablo Prado Lallande, is titled “The North-South Divide, the Digital Agenda, and Digital Diplomacy.” Heine’s expertise adds a unique perspective to the handbook, shedding light on the complexities of digital diplomacy in the context of global disparities and will be a great teaching tool in his course on Digital Diplomacy (IR 553).

Ambassador Jorge Heine is a Research Professor at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University.
