Adil Najam Delivers the 2024 Broad Lecture at FSU

Prof. Adil Najam delivers the 2024 Broad Lecture at FSU.

Dr. Adil Najam, Dean Emeritus and Professor at Boston University’s Pardee School of Global Studies and President of WWF-International, was invited to deliver the 2024 Ruth K. & Shepard Broad International Lecture at Florida State University (FSU) on February 2, 2024. Najam spoke to a standing room only audience on “Climate and Development in the ‘Age of Adaptation’.”  The 2024 Brand lecture was also made part of FSU’s College of Communications and Information’s 10th Annual South Asian Media and Cultural Studies (SAMCS) Conference and the Center for Global Engagement’s ‘Engage Your World’ Speaker Series.

Building on his ongoing research on the ‘Age of Adaptation‘ – an idea that Najam has been defining as the period when climate change policy becomes a transformational force to craft and realize the goals of just and sustainable development – Najam highlighted that climate change can no longer be seen as a ‘future issue.’ He suggested that while the evidence of climate impacts is overpowering, it need not lead to despair but should bring forth a new sense of urgency and action that can, if harnessed, become a transformational force for environmental justice and developmental redesign.

Adil Najam is Dean Emeritus and Professor at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University and also serves as the President of WWF-International. He served as the Inaugural Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies from 2014-2022. He is also a former Vice-Chancellor of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). His research focuses on issues of global public policy, especially those related to global climate change, South Asia, Muslim countries, environment and development, and human development.
