Garčević named New Interim Director for Center for the Study of Europe

Amb. Garčević

Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies has announced that Ambassador Vesko Garčević began his role as the interim director of the Center for the Study of Europe on July 1, 2024. He will serve in this position for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Garčević, a Professor of the Practice of International Relations, brings a wealth of diplomatic experience to the role. Prior to joining the Pardee School, he served as Montenegro’s Ambassador to Brussels, Vienna, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. His career has spanned pivotal moments in recent European history, including the dissolution of Yugoslavia and Montenegro’s political transition.

Dean Scott Taylor expressed confidence in Garčević’s appointment, citing his extensive knowledge of multilateral issues, particularly in European security, and his experience teaching courses on multilateral diplomacy and the role of small states in global affairs.

Garčević succeeds Kaija Schilde, who led the Center for the past three years and has transitioned to her new role as Associate Dean of Studies, also effective July 1, 2024.

The appointment promises an exciting year ahead for the Center for the Study of Europe, leveraging Garčević’s unique blend of practical diplomatic experience and academic expertise.

Ambassador Vesko Garčević dealt with issues pertinent to European security and NATO for almost 14 years during his diplomatic career.
