Longman Briefs U.S. Ambassador to Rwanda
Timothy Longman, Associate Professor of International Relations and Political Science and Director of the Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs (CURA) at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, participated in a March 12, 2018 executive analytic exchange on Rwanda with the newly appointed United States Ambassador to Rwanda Peter H. Vrooman.
The exchange was held at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. Longman delivered a briefing entitled “Controlling the Narrative: The RPF and the Public.”
Michele Wagner, of the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, delivered the opening remarks at the exchange. Susan Thomson, of Colgate University, presented on “The Environment of Reconciliation and Ideological Rehabilitation.” Scott Strauss, of the University of Wisconsin, delivered a talk entitled “Rebuilding Rwanda.”
Peter H. Vrooman is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. He began his career in 1991. His most recent posting was as the Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Prior to that assignment, he served as spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.
Longman’s current research focuses on state -society relations in Africa, looking particularly at human rights, transitional justice, democratization, civil society, the politics of race and ethnicity, religion and politics, and women and politics.
