Schmidt Speaks During Fondazione Corriere/Reset DOC Event
On October 26, 2020, Vivien Schmidt, Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration and Professor of International Relations and Political Science at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, spoke during an event co-hosted by Corriere della Sera and Reset Dialogues on Civilizations (Reset DOC). The event was part of the L’europe al Bivio Dopo Lo Shock (Europe at the Crossroads After the Shock) series.
The event was titled Road to Recovery: Ever Closer Union O Convivena Forzata? (Road to Recovery: Ever Closer Union or Forced Coexistence?). It began with a talk by Paolo Gentiloni, European Union (EU) Commissioner for the Economy, followed by a panel with Schmidt, Sergio Fabbrini, Professor of Political Science and International Relations, LUISS Guido Carli, and André Sapir, Professor of Economics, Université Libre de Bruxelles and Senior Fellow, Bruegel.
During her remarks, Schmidt discussed whether Europe will be able to re-emerge from the ashes of the COVID-19 pandemic and what the path forward for the EU is.

Vivien Schmidt is Professor of International Relations and Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and was the first Director of BU’s Center for the Study of Europe, housed at the Pardee School. Schmidt’s research focuses on European political economy, institutions, democracy, and political theory—in particular on the importance of ideas and discourse in political analysis.
