CSE Hosts Virtual Book Talk on Sandro Galea’s Well
The Center for the Study of Europe, an affiliated regional center at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted a virtual book talk and discussion on “Getting Well in Europe and America: A Transatlantic Perspective,” on April 14, 2020.
The event featured Sandro Galea, Dean and Robert A. Knox Professor at the Boston University School of Public Health, and Scott Greer, Professor of Health Management and Policy, Global and Public Health, and Political Science at the University of Michigan, as the key speakers and was moderated by Prof. Daniela Caruso, the Director of the Center and Jean Monnet European Union Professor of Law.
The event was live cast on YouTube.
The subject of discussion was Sandro Galea’s 2019 book, Well: What We Talk about When We Talk about Health., where Galea shows how the country’s failing health is a product of America’s peculiar history and character, and proposes a structural rethinking of American health policies.
Greer responded to Galea’s presentation on the basis of his vast knowledge of the politics and policies of health in the EU and in several European nations. The opening presentations were followed by a discussion with the speakers on the larger challenges of ‘health’ and wellbeing, including in the context of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
