Najam Discusses Accelerated Withdrawal of U.S. Troops from Afghanistan
Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on multiple media outlets to discuss the accelerated withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
Najam appeared on 24 News, GEO TV News, and GNN where he talked about United States troop withdrawal from Afghanistan and the escalation of Taliban led violence. He commented on the long-term impacts this situation will have on peace and stability in the region.
Najam also discussed Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s recent visit to the White House. With the U.S. moving so fast to pull out its troops, Najam noted that the signal seems to be that Afghanistan will have to take care of its own political confrontations between the government in Kabul and the Taliban. Unfortunately, it seems that the Taliban currently has the upper hand in what the eventual shape of the country will be. Najam went on to say “we should brace ourselves for much more violence in the coming months, as the final settlements is likely to be determined through conflict rather than negotiations.”
