Garčević Leads Diplomatic Negotiation Workshop

Between October 29 and November 12, 2021, Ambassador Vesko Garčević, Professor of the Practice of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, led a four-session diplomatic negotiation workshop at the Emmanuel College Institute of Eastern Mediterranean Studies (IEMS).

As part of the workshop, 22 students took part in a diplomatic simulation led by Garčević, who has served as the Ambassador in Residence for the Emmanuel College Institute of Eastern Mediterranean Studies since 2018. Students were instructed on negotiation tactics, different perspectives to take into account, as well as general diplomatic demeanor.

The mission of IEMS, formally established in 2018, is to promote and support the study of the Eastern Mediterranean and neighboring regions by building on the liberal arts mission of Emmanuel College and leveraging the academic and innovative power of Boston. IEMS at Emmanuel College sponsors academic programs, research, and educational opportunities for students, scholars, policymakers, and practitioners in Boston and throughout the Eastern Mediterranean. During his diplomatic career, Ambassador Vesko Garčević dealt with issues pertinent to European security and NATO for almost 14 years. In 2004, he was posted in Vienna to serve as Ambassador to Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. He had been a Montenegro’s Ambassador to NATO from 2010 until 2014 and served as Montenegro’s National Coordinator for NATO from 2015 until he joined the faculty at the Pardee School.
