Heine Discusses CCP Congress & China’s Future on “CGTN“
In his latest appearance on CGTN‘s “Dialogue,” Jorge Heine, Research Professor at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, discussed the ongoing Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and what the future holds for China.
The program covered Chinese President Xi Jinping’s wide-ranging speech to open the CCP Congress, China’s future development path, as well as the future of CCP leadership. In his remarks, Heine says that China has certainly come a long way in recent history – outlined by President Xi – however, it also faces hurdles in regard to globalization and security. He also noted that the great balancing act China must commit to is remaining a champion of free trade and foreign investment while also expanding its technological and scientific capabilities in order to be more self-reliant, a challenge that President Xi appears ready to take on.
Heine’s appearance also touched on China’s short- and long-term economic outlook, its path to modernization, how the country responds to accusations of “expansionism,” and much more.
The full program can be viewed below or on CGTN’s website.
