Professor Erik Goldstein Participates in Montenegro Summer School for Young Diplomats
Erik Goldstein, professor emeritus of international relations, recently took part in the 17th Summer School for Young Diplomats held in Montenegro this June. The event, sponsored by UNDP, the Union for the Mediterranean, and the Montenegrin Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together 52 early career diplomats from all continents.
During the summer school, Professor Goldstein participated in a panel discussion titled “Is it Possible to (S)Elect Peace?” The session explored the spectrum of conflict resolution strategies for today’s multiple conflicts around the globe. Goldstein described the discussion as “lively,” indicating engaging debates on this crucial topic.
This summer school provides an opportunity for young diplomats to gain insights from experienced professionals like Professor Goldstein, fostering international dialogue and understanding.
Erik Goldstein’s research interests include diplomacy, formulation of national diplomatic strategies, the origins and resolution of armed conflict, and negotiation. He is the author of The Road to Pearl Harbor: Great Power War in Asia and the Pacific (2022); Winning the Peace: British Diplomatic Strategy, Peace Planning, and the Paris Peace Conference, 1916-1920 (1991); Wars and Peace Treaties (1992); and The First World War’s Peace Settlements: International Relations, 1918 – 1925 (2002, Italian translation, 2004).
