From Puppets to Apps, around Don Quixote - A Works in Progress Presentation by Benjamin Juarez

  • Starts: 4:30 pm on Tuesday, February 12, 2019
  • Ends: 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 12, 2019
Cervantes' masterpiece continues to be read, interpreted and staged 402 years after the authors dead. Prof. Benjamin Juarez has been working with a group of scholars, musicians, filmmakers, programmers and critics to stage and develop an interactive application for tablets and smartphones that provides access and context to Manuel de Falla’s puppet opera “El Retablo de Maese Pedro,” a 1920’s masterpiece that signaled new directions for European modern music and explored original readings of Cervantes. The same model is being employed for creative work around the 500 anniversary of Cortés' encounter with Moctezuma. The Works in Progress presentations are intended to foster interdisciplinary conversations among Europeanists and others at BU. Open to faculty, graduate students, and visiting researchers. Refreshments will be served. RSVP to edamrien@bu.edu.
