DEAN'S SYMPOSIUM—Private-Sector Collaborations with Academic Public Health: Opportunities and Challenges

  • Starts: 8:30 am on Tuesday, October 2, 2018
  • Ends: 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 2, 2018
Featuring Amy Fairchild, School of Public Health, University of Texas A&M; and Yao Sodahlon, Mectizan Donation Program

Public health aspires to generate the social, economic, and cultural conditions that can create health. This work by definition must involve collaboration across sectors. Historically academic public health has achieved much success partnering with the public sector towards achieving its goals. Our partnership with the private sector has, however, been less straightforward. And yet, there seems to be little question that a genuine engagement with the private sector is necessary to generate the conditions that can foster a healthier world. This symposium aims to grapple with the issues associated with private sector-academic public health collaborations towards the end of developing best practices that can maximize the benefits and limit the pitfalls.
