Tuesday Night Lecture Series and Multiple Formats Keynote Speaker: Ashley James

As part of the Tuesday Night Lecture Series (TNLS) BU College of Fine Arts School of Visual Arts presents a lecture with curator Ashley James, organized by BU Graphic Design as part of Multiple Formats: Contemporary Art Book Symposium and Art Book Fair. • Ashley James, Ph.D., is Associate Curator, Contemporary Art at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She is the curator of Going Dark: The Contemporary Figure at the Edge of Visibility (2023-24) and Off the Record (2021); and co-curator of The Hugo Boss Prize: Deana Lawson, Centropy (2021). Prior to joining the Guggenheim, James served as Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn Museum, where she was the lead curator for the museum’s presentation of Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power (2018–19), organized Eric N. Mack: Lemme walk across the room (2019), and co-curated John Edmonds: A Sidelong Glance (2020-21). James holds a Ph.D. from Yale University in English literature and African American studies. • Multiple Formats: Contemporary Art Book Symposium weaves together conversations about artist books and higher education, pedagogical practices involving artist books, artist advocacy, and artist book distribution, collection, and access. The 2024 edition of Multiple Formats included a day of talks, lectures, and presentations on Friday, March 22, followed by an artist book fair on Saturday, March 23. The keynote speaker, Ashley James, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, kicks off the symposium with an evening lecture on Thursday, March 21 at 7pm. • All talks and panels are free and open to the public. The book fair has free admission and is open to all ages.
