New Employee Payroll Checklist

Enrolling in Direct Deposit
As a new Boston University employee, you are required to set up a direct deposit account for your paycheck. This can easily be done by visiting BUworks Central and accessing Employee Self-Service (ESS). You will need your BU user name and Kerberos password. For assistance reference how to apply for direct deposit. Video

Updating your Tax Withholding Allowances
Federal and state income taxes will be deducted from your paycheck. To electronically update your withholding allowances, access Employee Services on BUworks Central.

Enrolling in Online W2 access

To support campus-wide sustainability and cost saving initiatives, the University allows employees to elect to receive online W-2 forms in place of paper forms. IRS regulations, which allow employers to provide the option of online forms instead of a paper format, require that each employee give his/her consent to receive an online W-2 form in place of a paper version. In addition to supporting sustainability, issuing forms online minimizes the potential for identity theft by providing a more secure way for employees to access their form compared to having the form mailed to their address on record. . Please sign up for electronic W2’s by logging in here.

View My Paycheck
Each pay period, employees are able to access their paycheck or direct deposit advice within Employee Services on BUworks Central. Employees can view and print their paycheck or direct deposit advice for current and prior pay periods.
