Daniela Rios

Daniela Rios is a 9th & 10th grade Biology teacher at Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover, Massachusetts. This is her first year participating in the RET program so she has spent the summer doing research. She has been working with Professor Zhang, trying to perfect the process of fabricating substrate on which to culture neurons.

Daniela has enjoyed learning throughout her RET experience. She says that through this program, she hopes to inspire her students and show them that even teachers don’t have all the answers. Everybody is always capable of learning more. She also plans to apply some of her lab experiences to her classrooms by encouraging students to think outside of the box and create new solutions to old problems.

Next year, Daniela would like to participate in an RET program again, here or elsewhere, with a deeper concentration in biology. She is enthusiastic about contributing to different projects and hopes to continue growing in this type of professional scientific environment.

Daniela says that the RET program has provided her with experiences that not many teachers get to have. “It is a change of pace from the usual responsibilities of being a teacher, but I have loved it. I am excited to show my students that even I am still learning!”
