Launching the BU-TU Dortmund Research Network
Boston University Physics was happy to host a Planning Workshop and Reception on Oct 11, sponsored by the Office of the Vice President of Research Thomas Bifano. Dr Sonja Kreibich, Consul-General of Germany to the New England States, was the guest of honor.

BU-TU Dortmund Research Network
On Oct 11-12 Boston University Physics was happy to host a Planning Workshop with a reception Oct 11 in the Kenmore Room at One Silber Way. The Dortmund delegation was led by Professor Matthias Schneider (TU/BU) . Speakers included Professor Michelle Sander (BU ECE), Professor Jan Kierfeld (TU Physics), Professor Herre Jelger Risselada (TU Physics), Professor Joerg Debus (TU Physics), Professor Masha Kamenetska (BU Chemistry/Physics), Professor Bjoern Reinhard (BU Chemistry), and Professor John Straub (BU Chemistry). Three students from TU Dortmund also atteneded, Annabelle Annabelle Sömer and Anna M. Mendel, working with Dr Panagis Samolis, BU post-doctoral fellow in the Sander lab; and Michael Gutnikov working with Nick Russo, BU Physics graduate student working in Professor Kevin Smith’s lab.
In attendance at the reception for Dr Sonja Kreibich, Consul General for Germany, Senior Vice President Ken Olliff, Associate Dean Sean Mullen, and CAS Research Director Kathleen Shannon. The reception was sponsored by the Office of Vice President for research, Professor Tom Bifano.
Our own Professor Kevin Smith hosted a barbecue for our visiting students.
We look forward to building a Research Network and collaboration in Membrane Biological Chemistry and Physics, in High Energy Theory, in Quantum Condensed Matter Physics.
