CLASSES SUSPENDED - Dr. Melissa Gilliam Inauguration

On Friday, September 27, at 2 pm, Dr. Melissa Gilliam will be inaugurated as Boston University’s 11th president at Agganis Arena. Recognizing the historic nature of this occasion and to enable the participation of as many members of our community who wish to do so, the University will suspend all classes and nonessential operations on our Charles River and Fenway Campuses at 1 pm on September 27. On the Medical Campus, didactic classes will be cancelled after 1 pm but dental clinics will remain open, and medical, PA, and other students on clinical rotations or electives will need to continue their clinical assignments. This event has been incorporated into the academic calendar, and nonessential employees will not be required to request paid time off for that afternoon. On-campus essential employees will be expected to report as scheduled; essential services include, but are not limited to, University Police, Residence Life, Dining Services, Student Health Services, BU Libraries, Facilities Management & Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, Residential Safety, Mail Services, Network Services, and the Dean of Students. We want to offer special thanks to these members of our community for the important and outstanding service they’re performing on this day – and every day – to keep our operations running. Essential employees may ask their supervisor for the opportunity to attend as long as coverage needs are accounted for. The inauguration of a new president is among the rarest and most significant rites we undertake as an institution.
