DEIRDRE GIRARD, who has a passion for creating distinctive stage roles for women, completed her MFA in Playwriting at Boston University. She has had dozens of one-act plays produced nationally and internationally and her first full-length play The Christina Experiment was produced by the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport, MA. Deirdre was named a 2012/13 and returning 2013/14 Playwriting Fellow at New Repertory Theater in Watertown, MA, where she developed Reconsidering Hanna(h), which was produced by Boston Playwrights’ Theatre in 2014. In 2015, Deirdre was selected for the BCA/Company One Play Labs developmental program and in 2016 for the TWSS program at Central Square Theater. Most recently, she completed a commission from Peabody Essex Museum for two one-act plays inspired by their Wearable Art collection, and had readings of her play Shaken in Boston and Chicago. She is the founder of Writers at Play (a Boston University Alumni Playwriting Group), a visiting playwright/instructor for the Massachusetts Young Playwrights’ Project, an editor for the New England New Play Alliance, a member of numerous theater organizations such as The Dramatists Guild and Stage Source, and co-founder of TideTaken Playwriting Collaborative which operates a 40-seat rehearsal studio available at no cost to North Shore theater organizations.
