1974 Metcalf Cup & Prize
Alasdair C. MacIntyre, CLA
Alasdair C. MacIntyre joined Boston University in 1972 as a University Professor. He holds appointments in the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts. Professor MacIntyre’s “ability to be demanding and challeging to his students while stimulating their interest and making them stretch intellectually” made him a commanding choice for the 1974 Metcalf Cup and Prize. In his desire to teach as many students as possible, Professor MacIntyre usually schedules three to four courses per semester, a teaching schedule that is probably not equalled at any other major university. And while teaching, Professor MacIntyre held administrative positions in many universities including Oxford, Essex and Brandeis prior to his coming to Boston University.
