Amie Grills

Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs

Amie Grills is Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Professor of Counseling Psychology & Applied Human Development in BU’s Wheelock College of Education & Human Development.

She provides leadership on core academic efforts – from innovative curriculum development to creative uses of educational technology and honors programming – working closely with Boston University’s 17 schools and colleges to promote collaboration and strengthen the undergraduate experience. Working closely with the Provost and Deans from across BU, Amie serves as a central voice from the Provost’s office on matters related to undergraduate education. She oversees the BU Hub, the Center for Teaching & Learning, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities ProgramKilachand Honors College, and Undergraduate Council, and liaises with affiliated projects and offices to best support students’ access to all of the interdisciplinary experiences BU has to offer.

Amie also serves as the lead for the Vibrant Academic Experience pillar of the BU 2030 Strategic Plan. Prior to joining the Office of the Provost, she was Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Associate Dean of Research in the Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. 

Before her arrival at BU in 2013, Amie was faculty in the Psychology Department in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Houston. Amie is a clinical psychologist by training who specializes in anxiety, trauma, depression, and behavioral difficulties (particularly in children), as well as the development and evaluation of cognitive-behavioral assessments and interventions, including those conducted using web-based designs. Her research has been continually supported by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, and she has published two books and over 50 manuscripts in peer-refereed journals. Amie has been nationally recognized for her work, with awards from the American Psychological Association (fellow), the Association for Psychological Science, the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, and the Association for the Advancement of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, Her efforts as a professor and advisor were recognized in 2017 with BU’s United Methodist Scholar/Teacher of the Year (now the University Provost’s Scholar-Teacher of the Year) Award.

She holds an AB in Psychology from Smith College and an MS and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Virginia Tech.
