Barbara WalvoordBarbara Walvoord, Professor Emerita at the University of Notre Dame, has visited more than 400 campuses as consultant or workshop leader on assessment, teaching and learning, and writing across the curriculum. She coordinated assessment at the University of Notre Dame and has directed six faculty development programs at institutions both large and small, public and private. She was named the Maryland English Teacher of the Year for Higher Education in 1987. Her publications include Assessment Clear and Simple; Effective Grading: A Tool for Learning and Assessment in College (with Virginia Anderson); and Assessing and Improving Student Writing in College: A Guide for Institutions, General Education, Departments, and Classrooms. In addition to these guides for practitioners, she has published research on teaching and learning, including Teaching and Learning in College Introductory Religion Courses; Academic Departments: How They Work, How They Change (with co-authors); In the Long Run: A Study of Faculty in Three Writing-across-the-Curriculum Programs (with co-authors); and Thinking and Writing in College: A Naturalistic Study of Students in Four Disciplines (with Lucille McCarthy).
