
Amy Lieberman
Associate Professor at Wheelock College of Education and Human Development
Amy Lieberman is an Associate Professor in the Language & Literacy Education Department at BU’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Development, and currently serves as the Director of Doctoral Studies. Dr. Lieberman’s research focuses on how deaf children acquire American Sign Language (ASL), with a particular interest in how children learn to perceive language and information through the visual modality. Dr. Lieberman leads an NIH-funded investigation of word learning and attention in deaf and hard-of-hearing children. In related lines of work, Dr. Lieberman studies how early language experience influences language processing in deaf adults and children. Dr. Lieberman previously taught early childhood deaf education. At BU, Dr. Lieberman works with pre-service teachers in the Deaf Education program, which uses a multilingual approach to educating deaf students.
