
Amy Shanler
Associate Professor of the Practice, Public Relations, College of Communication
Amy Pavel Shanler has nearly 20 years of experience managing communications activities for multiple organizations and industries, including retail, technology, business, healthcare, and entertainment. As the director of PRLab, the nation’s oldest student-run public relations agency and a cornerstone of Boston University’s College of Communication PR curriculum, Amy oversees a working, profitable and award-winning student-run PR agency. In addition, Amy is a visiting assistant professor instructing on media relations.
Previously, Amy served as director of public and media relations for Royal Philips in North America. Amy oversaw media relations, brand activation, issues management, thought leadership and stakeholder relations as part of a global communication team across three business units and 15 major countries. Earlier, Amy directed PR strategies and tactics for Staples, the world’s leading office products company; managed PR for Cognos, now the business intelligence (BI) division of IBM; oversaw operations for the Publicity Club of New England, the region’s oldest association for public relations and marketing professionals; and served as senior account manager for Lois Paul & Partners (LP&P), a high-technology public relations subsidiary of Fleishman-Hillard.
Over the course of her career, Amy’s work has won five Bell Ringer Awards from the Publicity Club of New England, one PRSA Silver Anvil, and nominations from SABRE and for the Creativity in Public Relations Awards (CIPRA). She has also lectured on communications writing and media relations for Boston University and taught writing workshops for the Publicity Club of New England. Amy received a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in mass communications, a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in psychology, and a master’s degree with distinction in corporate public relations from Boston University.
