Daniel Miller

Director of PhD Program and Associate Professor, School of Social Work

Daniel Miller is dedicated to advancing the well-being of children and families by providing actionable evidence for policymakers. He researches food insecurity, the impacts of food and nutrition assistance programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and how social factors affect fathers’ involvement with their children.

Dr. Miller’s work has been funded by the William T Grant Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the United States Department of Agriculture. His research has appeared in the American Journal of Public Health, the Journal of Marriage and Family, Academic Pediatrics, Children and Youth Services Review, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal.

Miller is director of the PhD program at BU School of Social Work and a research director at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studies poverty and economic mobility among low-income Philadelphians. He is a committee member and 2022 fellow of the Society of Social Work and Research.
