Nancy Harayama

Senior Lecturer, Special Education, Wheelock College of Education & Human Development

Nancy Harayama is a senior lecturer in the Special Education Program at Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Development and serves as the Director of the Undergraduate Program. Prior to joining BU, she worked as a special education teacher in the Boston Public Schools and collaborated with family members from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds to serve the needs of students with severe disabilities.

She teaches courses in cognition and learning, assessment, instructional methods, autism, classroom behavior management, etc. Her areas of expertise include the assessment and instruction of students with significant cognitive disabilities, multiple disabilities, and autism. Specifically, she focuses on providing general education curricular access to these learners as well as using assistive technology, augmentative & alternative communication systems, positive behavioral supports to meet their needs.
