Thomas Byrne believes a safe, stable, and decent place to live is a fundamental prerequisite for a fulfilling and dignified life. His research focuses broadly on the causes, consequences, and policy solutions to homelessness and housing insecurity, and has been published in journals including Health Affairs, American Journal of Public Health, and Housing Policy Debate.

Byrne serves as an investigator for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Center for Healthcare Outcomes & Implementation Research (CHOIR) in Bedford, Mass., and the National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans. He serves on the board of directors at Hearth, Inc., a Boston-based organization dedicated to eliminating elderly homelessness through prevention, placement, and housing programs. Previously, Byrne was a member of the ad hoc Committee to Estimate Housing Need for Massachusetts and the data working group for the City of Boston Strategic Planning Group to Prevent and End Youth & Young Adult Homelessness.
