My scholarly interests include communicative and motor behavior in children at heightened risk of an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, the nature of developmental theory and method, and the history of American scientific psychology.  Co-authored empirical publications have examined phenomena such as the spontaneous initiation of communication and posture development in infants at low and heightened risk for an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. Theoretical contributions have addressed the nature of co-constructive, intersubjective realism as a metatheory for developmental psychology and developmental method, zones of development, and theories of the environment.   Historical books include Mind and Body: René Descartes to William James and Classics in Psychology, 1855-1914: Historical Essays.  Among other topics, edited or co-edited volumes have focused on Pure Experience: The Response to William James; The Evolutionary Origins of Developmental Psychology; Mind, Adaptation and Childhood; and Development in Context: Acting and Thinking in Specific Environments.
