Betsey Eltonhead Receives 2023 Health Sector Management Distinguished Alumni Award

The Health Sector Management Distinguished Alumni Award is a special recognition for alumni of the Health Sector Management Program at the Questrom School of Business for their significant contributions and achievements in the health sector. The recipient is nominated and selected by Questrom’s health sector faculty.

Betsey Eltonhead, MBA
Today, Betsey Eltonhead was awarded the Boston University Questrom School of Business Health Sector Management Distinguished Alumni Award. Over the past 35 years, Betsey Eltonhead has held various executive positions in healthcare management within different sectors of the healthcare market; health plans, provider networks, charitable organizations, consultancies, for profits and nonprofits.
Included in her many accomplishments, Ms. Eltonhead developed innovative behavioral health systems for a major health plan, launched Medicare and Medicaid Accountable Care Organizations, measured and identified best practices, managed physician and provider networks, oversaw behavioral health and medical specialty services, developed and managed successful grants and helped improve access to and improve the quality of care.
Her positions included being COO for Health Care Without Walls, a charitable organization that provides support to homeless women in Boston, being COO for New England Quality Care Alliance, a large physician network in Eastern Massachusetts, working as a Principal and subject matter consultant to CMS at MITRE, and various clinical operations positions at Tufts Health Plan, contributing towards quality improvement and medical cost management. At HealthMetrics Partners, a company that measures and identifies healthcare best practices, her work included developing and leading large projects such as examining WIC and prenatal services in multiple States, business development and strategy and now being a Senior Advisor. In addition, Ms. Eltonhead was the Administrator for medical specialties at a large multisite group medical practice, the Executive Director for a network of independent community physician practices and the Executive Director for a network of Massachusetts Medicaid providers.
Ms. Eltonhead is currently a consultant for SOAR, a volunteer, nonprofit organization that connects retired executives with greater Boston area small and medium sized nonprofits. She is also a director on the board of the Edinburg Center, a non-profit organization northwest of Boston, which provides services to people with mental health concerns, co-occurring substance use conditions, intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and brain injuries.
Ms. Eltonhead holds a Bachelors of the Arts from Beloit College and an MBA with high honors in healthcare management from Boston University Questrom School of Business, where she has been a guest lecturer over the years.
