April 23, 2025

The final event of the New Venture Competition took place on Innovators’ Night last week, where Epoch Labs, co-founded by Betty Zhao (Questrom’25) and Farida Abdelmoneum (ENG’24), won the first-place prize in the General Track, taking home $20,000. Epoch Labs is an AI analytics platform that uses portable cameras to provide real-time feedback and injury prevention data for tennis players.

According to the BU Today article written by Madyline Swearing (COM’26), Betty Zhao says, “We have a pilot program starting and the issue is we have partners, but we don’t have the funds yet to fulfill whatever deals/negotiations we have with them in order to move forward with the pilot program. This award money will help us to do that,” Zhao said. “This has been a really great experience.”
