The afternoon kicked off with welcoming remarks from BU Consulting Group’s leadership, followed by structured networking, allowing students to rotate between tables and engage with all alumni. This format ensured meaningful interactions and exposure to various consulting career paths.

Professor John Kirks then delivered an insightful presentation on the Strategy concentration, highlighting opportunities such as the Strategy Lab (SI360) course.

Attendees then participated in open networking, where alumni were stationed based on their respective industries: Technology, Finance & Risk, and General Consulting. This session gave students the flexibility to dive deeper into conversations and make valuable connections. The event wrapped up with closing remarks, expressions of gratitude to attendees and alumni, and the distribution of exclusive Spring Mixer merchandise.

The event’s success is largely credited to the organization’s functional board: President Kelsey Lem, EVP Jeffrey Wang, VP of Operations Julia Tran, VP of External Affairs Maya Marsden, VP of Marketing Clara Kim in conjunction with Directors, Adriana Lam, Yohan Song, and Brandon David. The leadership team completed the tall order of large-scale event planning and alumni relationships. Starting in December, the team handled the event’s organization, marketing, and outreach, representing the BU Consulting Group’s broader goal of providing professional development opportunities to BU students.

What BU Consulting Group Members Say About the Spring Mixer

“Attending the Spring Mixer was an incredibly insightful experience. As someone currently involved in BU Consulting Group Engagements and 180 Degrees Consulting, I am deeply passionate about consulting, so having the chance to connect with professionals who were once in the same clubs as me and are now working at my dream companies was invaluable.

I got the chance to talk to people from firms like Accenture, EY, IBM, and more, and it was really helpful to hear about their career paths and how they broke into the industry. They shared great advice on building skills, networking, and the recruiting process, which gave me a much better idea of how to shape my own path in consulting.”

“Thank you so much for having me at the 3rd Annual BU Consulting Group Spring Mixer! As a freshman, stepping out of my comfort zone to network was very intimidating, especially because it was a new environment. The structured networking session at BU Consulting Group made the experience so much more approachable. It helped ease the initial overwhelm and ensured I had the chance to connect with everyone. The event was incredibly well-organized—from the seamless check-in process and receiving my name tag to the thoughtful gift of an official Spring Mixer cup at the end. The balance between structured and open networking was perfect.

It not only allowed me to meet new people but also to reconnect with those I wanted to talk to again. A highlight for me was engaging with the BU Consulting Group e-board. While most networking events primarily focus on alumni, connecting with the e-board allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of their roles and learn from their unique college experiences. Overall, the Spring Mixer was a fantastic experience, and I walked away with new connections and inspiration. Thank you again for this opportunity!”

“As always, I had a ton of fun, as well as gained a ton of value, from BU Consulting Group’s mixer. I’m not naturally very social, so networking and networking events are always a struggle for me. However, the mixer’s structured networking system provided a great gentle nudge to get me talking with people I might not have talked to otherwise, including my peers, e-board, and alumni. In addition, I find that everyone in the BU Consulting Group community is just really approachable, even the people who are a couple of years out from college and comfortably in the workforce – the positive club culture is really visible, which is something hard to foster and even harder to maintain. Overall, this mixer was a great way to make networking comfortable, and beyond that, I just really enjoy hanging out with BU Consulting Group people. And I can’t forget the mug, which is of course at my desk as I write this!”
