“Questrom’s flexible part-time program was a perfect fit for me—not only could I get the business knowledge I wanted, but the networking opportunities were great.”

Michelle LeCorn is a senior manager at FluidEdge, a national healthcare and life sciences management consulting firm. But she had a lot to learn before she got there. “Thanks to Questrom, I’m miles apart from where I started,” she says.

With a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from Boston University, Michelle began her career at Boston Biomedical, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company. “I loved my job and the company, and the development opportunities there were amazing,” she says. But there was a problem—Michelle had no business or health sector education.

Since she was a BU alumna, Michelle had Questrom on her radar screen when she was considering business school, but that didn’t stop her from doing her due diligence. “I compared it to all the programs in the area. Questrom’s flexible part-time program was a perfect fit for me—not only could I get the business knowledge I wanted, but the networking opportunities in the health sector program were great.”

Michelle worked hard to apply what she was learning in her classes to her job at Boston Biomedical, and it paid off. “I earned promotions multiple times while in the program,” she says. “It was three years of consistent growth and development.”

Even though Michelle was familiar with the collaborative BU community, she expected the MBA environment to be more competitive. In the cohort track, she quickly learned differently. “I was surprised by how much the people in my cohort and in my classes would impact my life outside of the classroom. I knew right away that these people were going to be my key friends and colleagues throughout my career.” Michelle was right.

Several women from Michelle’s Health Sector program are still her biggest source of support and counsel. “We’re like a professional board of advisors for each other,” she jokes. “We meet frequently, and when one of us is at a decision point, we all weigh in.”

Michelle’s group of HSM peer advisors surely had some input when she was offered the job at FluidEdge she holds today. Apparently, they approved!
